Changed My Mind
I recently “retired” from Facebook (my personal account). Currently, I’m in a space where I easily get stressed. For one thing, I’m juggling quite a number of responsibilities. So there’s a pressure that I carry everyday. I certainly cannot just let go of my responsibilities so I looked into other parts of my life where I experience stress (that kind where there is no real pay-off). The answer was, Facebook!
As I scroll through my newsfeed everyday, I always encounter articles, statuses and other posts that are just unpleasant in many ways. What’s worse is that I always dive-in to conversations. Arguing, trolling, etc., and no pay-off. I just leave my Facebook app with both my phone battery and my own energy drained.
Seeing as that is something that I should let go, I decided to retire from Facebook. (I still have the messenger app because that’s how I communicate with colleagues). After doing so, there’s a different level of peace.
It was great until I realized that professionally, Facebook is where I get most of my clients. It’s been a rough 2 month because I had to resort to different mediums.
Last week, I decided to go back to Facebook again because I was not getting many clients anymore. Just about 10 minutes in and I am back to getting drained by the unpleasantness of people on it.
So I changed my mind. Eventhough I think I need it, I know I don’t want it.
It’s funny how I thought of Facebook as a need though. Anyway, if I’m going to get through whatever it is I am in now, I need a change of thinking.
